Continuing our series celebrating Netnod’s 25 years at the core of the Internet, in this post we focus on the Netnod Internet Exchange (IX). We talk to those who have been involved with Netnod over the years, look at some of the early IX challenges and technology, and hear some stories from the early days at the core of the Internet.
The root name servers are a critical part of the Internet’s infrastructure. Identified by letters A through M, they provide the entry points to the Domain Name System (DNS). Since 2000, Netnod has operated i.root-servers.net, the first root server to be located outside of the United States. In this blogpost, Netnod’s Lars-Johan Liman takes us through the 30 year history of the I-root server with a focus on some of the early challenges.
