The UN issued a press release today, announcing the renewal of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF).

We are happy to announce that Netnod Head of Outreach & Communications, Ms. Nurani Nimpuno was re-selected for the MAG, as a representative of the Internet technical and academic communities.

A total of 56 members, 33 among them new, have been appointed.  The Advisory Group members are from all stakeholder groups and all regions, representing Governments, the private sector, civil society, academia and technical communities. All Advisory Group members serve in their personal capacity, but are expected to have extensive linkages with their respective stakeholder groups.

"I am honoured to continue to serve on the MAG", says Ms. Nimpuno, "and am committed to not only represent the technical and acamedic communities as well as I can, but also work together with other stakeholder groups to continue to develop and enhance the IGF.

The IGF is an outcome of the Tunis phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) that took place in 2005.  In the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society, Governments asked the Secretary-General to convene a “new forum for policy dialogue” to discuss issues related to key elements of Internet governance and set out the Forum’s mandate.

Ms. Nimpuno has also served on the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) Working Group on improvements to the IGF, whose report is to be presented at the 15th CSTD session in May 2012.
