Netnod applauds the successful completion of the IANA stewardship transition
3 October 2016
Netnod congratulates the global Internet community on the successful transfer of the stewardship of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) functions to the global Internet community.
On 1 October 2016, the United States Government contract with ICANN for the IANA functions, was allowed to expire, marking the final step in the implementation of the IANA Stewardship transition.
Over the last two years, stakeholders across the globe worked tirelessly to develop and implement the plan for the future stewardship of the IANA functions. As a strong supporter of the IANA Stewardship Transition Process, Netnod has been truly impressed by the enormous effort by the global Internet community, resulting in the transition of the stewardship of IANA to the global Internet community.
Netnod is delighted to applaud the successful completion of this historic achievement. As a result, the Internet will continue to function as well as it has to date.
Netnod operates the DNS root name service i.root-servers.net (I-root). This fundamental service has been provided reliably to the Internet community at large for 25 years. Netnod continues to be committed to providing reliable, secure and robust DNS root name service to the Internet community, as we have always done.
